Will Cherry leaves JL Bourg-en-Bresse after just nine games

Will Cherry, the 35-year-old American point guard, left JL Bourg-en-Bresse in March 2026 after just nine games. He then played ten matches for Boulazac before signing in Mexico. His stint in France ended with averages of 9.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

A short-term medical replacement spell

Cherry joined JL Bourg in January 2026 as a medical replacement for William McDowell-White. His role was limited: four games in Betclic Élite and five in the EuroCup. Even so, he stayed effective. His final appearance in the Ain jersey came on March 16 against Saint-Quentin, when he scored 12 points in 22 minutes.

A bigger role at Boulazac

After leaving the Ain, Cherry moved to Boulazac. Under Alexandre Ménard, he regained a more central role. Over ten Betclic Élite games, he averaged 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists. His standout outing? A complete performance against Saint-Quentin on March 29: 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in a 84-88 loss.

An international career continues in Mexico

At 35, Cherry adds another destination to his résumé. He has signed with Dorados de Chihuahua in Mexico’s top flight. The club is banking on his defensive energy and leadership to bolster the roster. His move keeps a career that has already taken him to Lithuania, Germany, Venezuela and Iran.

Numbers that tell the story

Across his stints at Bourg and Boulazac, Cherry posted solid averages. In Betclic Élite he put up 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists. In the EuroCup his line was 8.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists. His impact goes beyond the box score: at his age, he brings rare physical presence and court smarts.
