Xavier Castaneda leaves JL Bourg-en-Bresse for Nanterre 92
Guard Xavier Castaneda, former player of JL Bourg-en-Bresse, signs with Nanterre 92 for the 2026-2027 season. The 26-year-old American-Bosnian had shone in Betclic Élite with JL Bourg in 2024-2025, averaging 17.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game.
Why is this transfer important for Nanterre?
Nanterre 92 is banking on Castaneda’s experience to bolster its offense. The player, selected for the 2024 LNB All-Star Game, brings the ability to create his own shot and dominate the pick-and-roll. He joins Benjamin Sene in a promising backcourt duo.
A difficult Spanish season
After his time at JL Bourg-en-Bresse, Castaneda faced a tough season in Liga Endesa. Loaned to MoraBanc Andorra after a slow start at Unicaja Malaga, he suffered a hamstring injury. In 13 games, he averaged 11.1 points with 38.1% from three.
Nanterre 92’s future
Nanterre, third in the 2025-2026 regular season, retains most of its roster. Castaneda becomes the first signing of a group that will return to the Basketball Champions League. The club is betting on continuity to improve.
